A Place for Dad

An elderly parent accustomed to personal privacy but with diminished mobility led the owners of this house to create a small suite on the ground floor of their home, with a separate wheelchair accessible entrance.
To deal with a discombobulated clutter of roof lines in the rear, the owner agreed that an addition to the second floor might help aesthetically tie the rear of the house together — and it just happened to provide needed office and exercise space they had considered for a future project. The common deck and landscaping help bring the family together in the simplest of activities, from morning coffee to family picnics.
